Wishing all members and their families a Happy New Year!
Congratulations to super-fit Ray Claridge who is our new cyclo-cross champion. He finished a few places ahead of our experienced veteran Vernon Moore, despite riding a mountain-bike. Click here for the full result.
A Sport Studies student at the University of Southampton is asking if our members would participate anonymously in a study in how cheating in elite sport has affected amateur sport since 1999, the introduction of the World Anti-Doping Agency. The study is only collecting the opinions of the athletes, not their personal training methods. The online questionnaire can be found at: https://www.surveymonkey.com/s.aspx?sm=et2_2besNKZVkdMyZrpS6R5Q_3d_3d.
Another former member has re-joined the club - Welcome back to Neil Ferris who was a very active member of the club back in the 80's and recently survived his first club-run for many a year!
Dates of our spring social rides now on the Social Page - and don't forget the Mince Pie Run on Sunday 7th December!
New Club Chairman. At the
club's AGM on 3rd November, Pat Lafford was elected as Chairman of the club for
2008/09. The rest of the committee remains unchanged:- Claire Newman
(secretary), Roy Budd (treasurer), Kevin Long (vice-chair), Alan Bigwood, Mike
Bisson, John Sanchez-Bisson, Colin Smith, Simon Wheeler.
Our Chairman John Sanchez-Bisson has
decided to stand down from this position after many years' service to the club -
and indeed to resign from 1st-claim membership of the club to join DH Cyclesport.
Therefore we will need to elect a new chairman at the AGM. The chairman's
main role is to chair committee meetings (8 or so each year) and provide a brief
report at the AGM, and sometimes to say a few words at appropriate club
occasions. Nominations - for chairman or any other club offices - may be
taken at the AGM or communicated to a committee member beforehand.
Dates for your diary:-
Club AGM Monday 3rd November 8pm, Colbury Hall, Colbury.
Club dinner and prize presentation - Saturday 21st
February 2009 - the Crown Hotel, Lyndhurst.
Welcome to new member - or rather welcome back - Ray Claridge. Ray was an active club member quite a few years ago, as quite a young fellow. He is now having another go (he's still not a veteran!) and has been seen out and about getting some miles in from his home in Dibden Purlieu.
Autumn Social Rides are now listed on the
Social Page, and our Cyclo-cross dates now on the Events page.
Well it seems that David has been the Man of the Year, winning nearly every trophy including the club 10 and 25 championships, and the President's Cup competition (Click here for the result of that competition). He has also posted a fast 50 (2.2.39) and a good 100 (4.22.56) so at last we will be dusting off the BAR trophy. Unfortunately he hasn't had much competition from his club-mates who seem a bit lacking, in numbers at least. Pat did manage to beat him in a couple of open time trials and currently has the fastest '10' of the season with his 22.19 in the club's Open 10.
Hoping some of our other regulars will be back out again on the social rides and next season's races - or this winter's Cyclo-Cross.
More social rides events to be arranged in the autumn.
Some photos of another enjoyable and successful trip to the Tour de France can be viewed at http://picasaweb.google.co.uk/clairee31 and at www.flickr.com/photos/27447156@N08/sets/72157606579866260/detail/
Welcome to new member Therasa Paul. Therasa (or Terry) lives in Ashurst and she has done one time trial to date. She has been a runner, her other hobbies include marathon cross-crountry ski events and she knows a lot about insects, with a degree thesis on aphids!
Inter-club with New Forest CC. Although our small team of David, Alan & Pat managed to win the first leg of the competition (despite Pat being delayed by mechanical trouble), unfortunately Pat and Claire were unable to match this in the second leg
The Club 10 which was cancelled on 17th April has been rescheduled for Wednesday 6th August and will now be on the P164c, 7pm start. So still plenty of time to get points in the President's Cup competition. Click here for current standings.
